perak-riceLyn sent us this wonderful picture taken while passing through the rice bowl of the peninsula's central region. She writes:

I took this photo while I was in my dad's car traveling back to KL from my grandmother's place in Pusing, Perak. It was a journey which cut through vast expands of paddy fields in the state of Perak. But against the backdrop of rural tranquility, the high tension cable towers remains a constant reminder of urbanization.

The town of Pusing is indeed a nice place and is populated mainly by the Hakkas. Like any other small towns, the people who live there lead relatively simple and laidback lives. Most of the womenfolk, my grandmother included, used to work as dulang washers back in the days when there were many operating tin mines in Perak.

Besides that, Pusing is also famous for this type of noodle called 'dao ma qie' that the locals eat for breakfast. It is like the 'pan mee' that we have here except theirs have slightly different texture and bite to it.

You can read more about Pusing in the Wikipedia entry here.
