THE BERSIH 2.0 ANNUAL REPORT 2019

2019 had been a busy year for us as we pushed for electoral and institutional reforms fresh on the back of Malaysia's historic first-time change in government at the 14th General Election in 2018.

Among the key happenings and initiatives that took place in 2019 were:

  • Together with the Electoral Reform Committee (ERC), we conducted nationwide consultations with stakeholders on electoral reforms and improving electoral processes.
  • Together with our partner, ENGAGE, we initiated discussions on changing the electoral system to a proportional representation (PR) system.
  • We brought key stakeholders and experts together to discuss the setting up of a National Address Registry with a Unique Identifier.
  • Help set up a new coalition to push for local council elections called Gabungan Demokrasi Tempatan (DEKAT).
  • And many other events.

Overall, 2019 has been a very hectic year for Bersih 2.0 where we monitored 5 by-elections, organised 9 workshops/forum, issued 65 press statements and held 9 press conferences.

Despite the more challenging new environment with the change in government in March 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to push for reforms under the new "normal" and we will update you from time to time with our press statements and monthly newsletters.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
