Since 2020, 5 billion people have become poorer, while the world’s 5 richest men have more than doubled their fortunes—at a rate of $14 million per hour.

Oxfam’s new report, "Inequality Inc. : How Corporate Power Divides Our World & the Need for a New Era of Public Action" explores the disparity between the uber-wealthy and the rest of society.

In his Foreward, Bernie Sanders aptly summarises the stark reality.....

"Here is the harsh economic reality we must confront:

• Never before in human history have so few owned so much.

• Never before in human history has there been such income and wealth inequality.

•Never before in history have we had such huge concentrations of ownership.

• Never before in history have we seen a billionaire class with so much political power.

• And never before have we seen this unprecedented level of greed, arrogance and irresponsibility on the part of the ruling class!"

"So how do we reduce the gap between the super-rich and the rest of society?

Oxfam is calling on governments to rein in billionaire and corporate power.

{ Can we do the same here?}

This means breaking up monopolies, empowering workers by supporting living wages, unionization, and paid sick and family leave, taxing corporations and the superrich, and embracing public services.

Oxfam estimates that a wealth tax on the world’s multi-millionaires and billionaires could generate $1.8 trillion a year. This money could be used to invest in public services and infrastructure and to support climate action initiatives that could better everyone’s lives, not just those of the ultra-wealthy."
