“Living over the waters off the coast of Semporna, Sabah, is a community of children who have never had the opportunity to attend a government school.

Many are Bajau Laut; an indigenous nomadic people who have lived on the waters of Sulu and Sulawesi Seas for generations. Because many of these children are stateless, they are excluded from Malaysia's public education system. Without access to school, their futures are shaped by illiteracy, poverty, limited healthcare, discrimination, and few opportunities to change these circumstances.

In 2015, a small community-run project called Iskul Sama diLaut Omadal was initiated on Omadal island to change that.”
