This was the final shot captured by a vigil attendee that balmy November night last year. It was the eve of the Bersih rally and a candlelight vigil was being held calling for the abolition of the ISA. Over two hundred people were at the Dataran PJ then. In the ensuing minutes, there would be chaos when - under the strains of Negaraku - the police would break up the gathering.
Twenty-two citizens were arrested that night including a Catholic priest, a grandmother, PJ Utara MP Tony Pua, Selangor ADUNs Ronnie Liu and Lau Weng San. They were subsequently charged earlier this year for illegal assembly and failing to comply with a police order to disperse. This coming Tuesday - November 10 - their trial will begin at the PJ Court. Incidentally, this Tuesday also marks the second anniversary of the Bersih rally. Yellow's a nice colour for that day.
