After few days after witnessing the gentle and quiet Hulu Selangor constituency just before the By-election campaign, Jayanath Appudurai returns to the north-eastern Selangor territory to find things quite a bit different
The billboards deign to tell the story of the promises delivered, and to be delivered, to the good people of Hulu Selangor.
One claimed it has “protected and taken care” of Malaysians for 63 years.
The Other promised to “Save Malaysia”.
But for this gentleman - a former worker from a rubber estate ‘replaced’ by Lembah Beringin – all the achievements and promises were meaningless.
He found ‘refuge’ in Kampung Air Panas, Kerling – a New Village- that he now shares his daily existence with this gentleman, who gave a charming yet wry smile.
These gentlemen had seen it all before – “same old, same old story” they demurred.
But this young mother feeding her beautiful Anak Bangsa Malaysia from Serendah, was full of hope for the future of this nation. The winsome smile says it all. Malaysia is certainly not a lost cause.
