Accompanied by a lazy drizzle, a group of people gathered in front of the Egyptian embassy in KL to show solidarity with the people of Egypt whose battle to overthrow their president is being met with an iron fist. Information on what's going on in Egypt can be found here and here. Below are images of the peaceful gathering. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The demonstration was peaceful and rather timid as compared to that which is taking place in Egypt. A few political figures were present alongside activists and members from NGOs as well as members of the public. Demonstrators walked from the car park area of Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir towards the entrance of the embassy where the police were on standby to prevent any untoward incident.
Speeches were made by a few people, explaining the reason for the gathering and to express their solidarity with the people of Egypt.
Egyptians who are currently residing in Malaysia were present to also show solidarity with their fellow citizens back home.
And they were supported by Malaysians who are equally concerned.
The Egyptian embassy refused to send a representative to accept the memorandum. The memorandum was then submitted via the mail box. Together with the memorandum, a prayer was sent.
A prayer for those who gave their lives to restore democracy. A prayer for justice. A prayer for peace. |
