Almost four months to the day he was buried at the Nirvana Memorial Park, Teoh Beng Hock's body will be exhumed to help pin the cause of his death.
The Coroner's Court made that decision today, with the second post-mortem to be conducted the following day. The post-mortem will be carried out by forensic pathologist Dr Shahidan Md Noor at the Sungai Buloh Hospital and will be witnessed by Selangor state’s forensic expert, Thai pathologist Dr Porntip Rojanansunand. The MACC will be represented by another foreign expert.
Dr Pornthip had earlier told the inquest she believed Teoh’s death was 80 per cent homicide, contrary to testimonies from the two Malaysia-based pathologists who conducted the first autopsy.
Her testimony, based on government forensic reports, sparked the argument for a second autopsy, which the Coroner agreed to last week.
Although a painful episode, Teoh's family agreed to the exhumation in the belief that it will lead them to the truth and closure. Special religious rites will take place before the body is exhumed.

This was the final shot captured by a vigil attendee that balmy November night last year. It was the eve of the Bersih rally and a candlelight vigil was being held calling for the abolition of the ISA. Over two hundred people were at the Dataran PJ then. In the ensuing minutes, there would be chaos when - under the strains of Negaraku - the police would break up the gathering.
