The skies were a threatening grey by 8 o'clock. It would surely be a matter of minutes before the rain poured. In the backdrop of the numerous pondok panas set up at the Barisan Nasional's gathering point, the Port Dickson sea was etching dark and gloomy lines. But inside the pondok, a different sentiment permeated. Panas indeed.

 

Overheard: "Today, we change the story. No way dia boleh menang 8-0 (in the peninsula)."

It forms the northern edge of the Klang Valley, a crisp quartz line that marks the flatlands and the ascension towards Genting Highlands in the state of Pahang. Behind it lies the Klang Gates Dam, a reservoir feeding water to thousands of homes in the valley.


Seen clearly from the MRR2 highway, Bukit Tabur (also known as Bukit Hangus to the locals) lays claim to being the world's longest quartz-rich ridge. The main access points to the trail is at the Klang Gates in Taman Melawati.

Early morning August 1, 2009, the cops in KL were picking up people suspected of attending this rally. By evening time, close to 600 citizens had been ferried away in Black Marias including teeenagers and MPs.
